El Rincon de Tigre. The Tiger’s Corner.

The Tiger's Corner got its name from the abundant number of Jaguars that live in the area.  Though the felines are rarely seen during the day, the main attraction of the tour is the towering waterfall than sprays those brave enough to climb up next to it.  The waterfall also provides a great spot to relax and swim in the refreshing waters for those who wish to stay on the tamer side. The recently renovated road allows tourists to drive to within minutes of the site.  A short 15-minute walk from the car park brings you face to face with the powerful waterfall. About the Location El Rincón del Tigre, or the Tiger’s Corner, is located in the town of Taipiplaya, 156 km from the city of La Paz and 10 km from Caranavi, in the province of the North Yungas. With a height of 800 m.s.m., it has an average temperature of 30ºC. The landscape is overwhelming and its waterfalls incomparable. The highest waterfall exceeds 80 meters. Two others rise up to 50 meters each, and in its fall, the crystal clear water creates huge natural pools between the rocks. The beauty of these waterfalls only compares with the warmth of its jungle environment. And this is just one of the attractions of the town of Taypiplaya, "La Joya de Caranavi", the jewel of Caranavi. In the circuit of waterfalls of Taypiplaya is the site baptized as the Rincon del Tigre. This place owes its name to the traditional presence of jaguars (feline which is known as tiger by the locals). Only 40 minutes of walking from the village rise the three huge waterfalls. The place is flanked by huge stones of slab where the water runs despite the thick vegetation; however, the skill of the community members with the machete could open a path that reveals the clarity of the slopes. Warm and crystal clear, the water invites diving into the natural pools that are formed with the falling of the waters are ideal for the swimmers. The boldest come to the caves. From here, the route of the waterfalls invites adventure because there are no paths defined in the middle of the virgin forest. There are many sites that, despite their incomparable beauty, have hardly been seen by human eyes.

Salar de Uyuni Salt Flats. Shorter and off the beaten path.

You have seen all the photos and now it's your turn to experience the magic!  Traveling the normal route, you will be in a caravan of 4x4 jeeps that are all going to the same place at the same time.  NOT with us!  We offer an off the beaten track tour where you will be the lone travelers at times.  We will see the main sights in reverse of the normal tours, so we may still see other tourists, but we will be making our own way at our own pace!  Amazing! Did you know? Salar de Uyuni (or Salar de Tunupa)[1] is the world's largest salt flat at 10 582 square kilometers (4 086 sq mi). It is in the Daniel Campos Province in Potosí in southwest Bolivia, near the crest of the Andes and is at an elevation of 3 656 meters (11 995 ft) above sea level.[2] The Salar was formed as a result of transformations between several prehistoric lakes. It is covered by a few meters of salt crust, which has an extraordinary flatness with the average elevation variations within one meter over the entire area of the Salar. The crust serves as a source of salt and covers a pool of brine, which is exceptionally rich in lithium. It contains 50 % to 70 % of the world's known lithium reserves,[3] which is in the process of being extracted. The large area, clear skies, and exceptional flatness of the surface make the Salar an ideal object for calibrating the altimeters of Earth observation satellites. The Salar serves as the major transport route across the Bolivian Altiplano and is a major breeding ground for several species of flamingos. Salar de Uyuni is also a climatological transitional zone since the towering tropical cumulus and cumulonimbus incus clouds that form in the eastern part of the salt flat during the summer cannot permeate beyond its drier western edges, near the Chilean border and the Atacama Desert.
