The Death Road operated by Runaway Adventure on a Front Suspension Bike

With brand new bikes, fresh gear and an experienced guide ready to go, we will give a ride you could not even dream of.  You will safely cruise down 22km of asphalt road as you get warmed up to take on the infamous Death Road as you cruise along cliffs with 200-meter drop-offs, through refreshing waterfalls and along what used to be the only road between La Paz and the Amazon.  Note this road is ridden by many tourists every day...if you can ride a bicycle, you can take on the death road.  There are at not times technical downhill riding that required special mountain bike knowledge.  Our trained guide will give you all the safety details before the trip begins and along the way to let you know what is coming up around the corner! The tour leaves every day, between 7:15 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. Transportation picks you up from your hotel if they are staying in the center of the city. We start from La Paz towards La Cumbre (the top of the mountain) which is at 4700m above sea level. The time from La Paz to La Cumbre is 45 min to 1hr. At La Cumbre, all the equipment is delivered: trousers, jacket, helmet, gloves, elbow pads, knee pads and your bicycle. The guide begins with the safety tips, instructions and a description of the road. The first part we cycle down 22 km to Unduavi on a paved road. This is an easy downhill ride where riders can choose to go slow and enjoy the view, or rip down the road as fast as you can go.  From Unduavi, we must take the transport for 10 min with bikes on the roof to pass the uphill section of the road.  We arrive at Chuspipata, the start of the dirt section of the descent and the 'real' start of the death road.  We cycle an amazing 33 km along this road until we reach Yolosa which is at 1200 meters above sea level (end of the road). As the adrenaline starts to wear off we are treated to a delicious lunch to replenish our body.  We can relax and take a shower and enjoy the tropical weather before we take the bus back up to the city. We arrive at the city of La Paz between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm, depending on the speed of the group, ever-changing weather and traffic.
